"Talk
does not cook the rice"
a wise old saying

Dr.
Amen has the ability to view patients from a multidisciplinary approach
and meet them where they are. Incorporated in this approach are
nutrition, classical homeopathy, acupuncture, tui na, botanical
medicine, breathing and meditation techniques to aid in stimulating
the natural healing power within.
Dr.
Amen views the doctor-patient relationship as a
partnership through which empowerment occurs.
Optimal
health occurs when there is an unimpeded flow of the life force
within, leading to the proper alignment of the physical, emotional,
mental, and spiritual aspects of being. To achieve optimal health
is one's freedom to be in the moment and fulfill the purpose of
life. Man, being an instrument of spirit, is assigned a specific
purpose by spirit. In health, that purpose is fulfilled.
Health
does not necessarily mean the absence of physical symptoms.
Pain is a part of the human experience. Symptoms can be part
of a healthy system and usually act as the warning lights of a car.
If a driver pays close attention to the gauges and does proper maintenance,
the warning lights rarely go on. Disease occurs when there is a
disturbance of the life force. When one ignores the gauges (the
conscience), uses low-grade fuel (poor nutrition and dietary habits),
and/or has a clogged exhaust system (poor elimination), the warning
lights (symptoms) begin to flash. As the gauges and lights of the
car are indicators of disturbances in the system, so are headaches,
constipation, obesity and high blood pressure which may be precursors
to more chronic disease processes. If one continues to drive with
warning lights flashing, eventually the car stops. When one applies
this concept to the human body, the understanding of how disease
progresses becomes clear.
Unfortunately,
most enter the mechanic's shop (physician's office) after ignoring
the gauges for a while, some time between the warning lights flashing
and the car stopping. The goal of the mechanic (physician) is then
to aid in restoration of proper equilibrium. For the patient, this
can only be done by stimulating and removing obstructions to the
life force (the healing power of nature) within. As the system is
corrected, the warning lights stop flashing. The good mechanic then
reminds the driver to keep a watchful eye on the gauges so that
the proper maintenance is performed, as ". . . an ounce of
prevention is worth a pound of cure".
